Resource Recycling Science and Engineering
2025-12-29 13:24

Overview of the major:

Resource Recycling Science and Engineering, an emerging strategic discipline, is established on the foundation of Hubei Province’s nationally top-tier field “Chemical and Mining Engineering” discipline, integrating knowledge from mining, chemistry, environmental science, metallurgy, materials science, economics, and management. The major began nationwide enrollment in 2019, aiming to cultivating technical professionals urgently needed in the fields of resource recycling, clean production, and the circular economy. The core courses are delivered by a faculty team of nine members, comprising two professors, five associate professors, and two lecturers, all of whom serve as master’s thesis supervisors. Notably, one is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Fund, and 100% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees. In recent years, the major has secured substantial research funding, including 10 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, an Innovation Group Project from the Hubei Natural Science Foundation, a Hubei Science and Technology Support Program, two Hubei International Cooperation Projects, and 12 provincial-level research projects. Meanwhile, their achievements include one national-level award and seven provincial-level awards.

The major adopts a talent cultivation model centered on “solid foundations, emphasis on practice, and pursuit of innovation”. It is supported by several prominent teaching and research platforms, including the National Key Laboratory for Green and Efficient Development and Utilization of Phosphate Rock and Its Associated Resources, the National Engineering Research Center for Phosphorus Resource Development and Utilization, the Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Process (Ministry of Education), the Hubei Provincial Demonstration Center for Chemical Experiment Teaching, and the Hubei Provincial Experimental Teaching Center for Resources and Environment. With its distinctive interdisciplinary characteristics, the major integrates knowledge from mining, chemistry, environmental science, metallurgy, materials science, economics, and management. As a strategic emerging discipline driven by industrial upgrading, it is designed to cultivate professionals equipped to address complex challenges in resource efficiency, sustainable development, and technological innovation.

Educational Objectives:

Based on the national “Dual Carbon” strategy and resource security needs, the major focuses on the resource circulation of the entire phosphorus chemical industry chain. Through four years of undergraduate education, it aims to cultivate graduates with high political and ideological awareness, strong communication and organizational management skills, robust innovative spirits, and international perspectives. The graduates will acquire solid foundational knowledge in the natural sciences and humanities, as well as professional expertise in resource recycling, clean production, and the circular economy. They will develop an understanding of resource circulation principles and sustainable socioeconomic development, enabling them to engage in scientific research, engineering technology development, process design, production management, and operations in areas of urban mineral resource utilization, solid waste recycling, environmental and ecological protection. Ultimately, the major is designed to nurture senior engineering and management professionals who possess exceptional potential for growth and development within five years after graduation.

Core Courses:

Introduction of Resource Recycling Science and Engineering; Inorganic Chemistry; Analytical Chemistry; Organic Chemistry; Physical Chemistry; Principles of Chemical Engineering; Resource Processing and Equipment; Separation Engineering; Metallurgical Engineering; Chemical Reaction Engineering; Solid Waste Treatment and Resource Recovery; Modern Phosphorus Chemical Technology and Applications; Industrial Ecology.
